A Hopi High School football player who scored his team's only touchdown in a playoff game over the weekend has died from an injury sustained in the fourth quarter.

The Arizona Interscholastic Association said Monday night that Charles Youvella died at a hospital of a traumatic brain injury.

Youvella, a senior, was injured in Hopi's 60-6 loss to Arizona Lutheran on Saturday in the Arizona Division 5 first round playoffs. Hopi High School is in Keams Canyon on the Hopi reservation in northeastern Arizona.

Youvella's father, Wallace, is on the executive board of the Arizona Interscholastic Association. The AIA says Charles Youvella died with his family by his side.

The AIA says an account will be established to help defray costs for the Youvella family.
